Have you ever been driving somewhere in your car, so complacently and deeply wrapped up in your own thoughts that you had absolutely no idea how you ended up at the correct destination? Your mind and spirit just somehow subconsciously conspired to lead you to exactly where you were supposed to be.
Call it divine intervention, if you will, but this is a glimpse into how I feel MY life is at this very moment. Not exactly sure how I got here but I do know it’s where I’m supposed to be. Had you asked me 12 years ago if Rochester, New York would ever be a place that I’d call home, my immediate and resounding reaction would have been, “NO WAY ON EARTH!” Not that Rochester ever even entered my thoughts for any reason whatsoever. I had some vague sense that Kodak had its world headquarters here but aside from that, I knew nothing about the city except its notoriously frigid temperatures that a high school chum who had attended RIT, complained about. I shivered when I read an article sometime in the distant past about the infamous Golden Snowball Award, a contest between 5 cities in Upstate New York all vying for the trophy given to the city that receives the most snowfall for the snow season. I do recall thinking how lucky I was to be residing in Fort Lauderdale, lazing by my backyard pool in January, contentedly sipping a strawberry daiquiri and working on my tan.
So imagine my complete surprise that I am now a homeowner living happily in the Western Banks of the Flour (or is it Flower?) City – Chili to be exact – and thoroughly enjoying my life. I cannot believe I am saying this but, I LOVE IT HERE. My journey to now has been a long circuitous one filled with twists, turns, and detours along the way and this blog, “Eat, Drink, and Re-Marry” will fill in the blanks of how I ended up here after 2 decades in Florida. You will get to know my trials and tribulations as well as a good deal about my family, friends, and the challenges and joys of navigating the waters of my Chapter 2 with Bob, the love of my life (and husband of not quite 5 months after 11 years together), and our gaggle of four children…two mine, two his, but all four totally and completely OURS! (our wedding photo is below)
Please send me your comments, wisecracks, and suggestions for future entries. I hope you find my posts interesting, enlightening, entertaining, and relatable. My promise to you, dear readers, is that complete honesty will be my mantra, no matter how embarrassing the stories may be. Until next time, I wish you the kind of happiness that warms you from the inside out. With this weather forecast, you’re going to need it!
